The Taiwan ASEAN Studies Center
Guiding principles
Taiwan and ASEAN member states have long fostered robust cooperation across multiple domains. Recognizing this vital relationship, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs commissioned the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER) to establish the “Taiwan ASEAN Studies Center” on October 1, 2009. As Taiwan's pioneering ASEAN-focused policy think tank, the center serves as a catalyst for regional research and facilitates domestic and international dialogue on ASEAN-related matters, while strengthening Taiwan's engagement with ASEAN countries. In response to evolving geopolitical dynamics and emerging trends, the center has broadened its research purview to encompass Indo-Pacific developments, addressing critical issues including trade, diplomacy, governance, labor practices, green transformation, supply chain resilience, and interdisciplinary studies.
Research focus and objectives
- Establish a platform for research and exchange on ASEAN and regional economic and trade development topics both at home and abroad.

- Strengthen Taiwan's research and analysis capabilities on the regional economic and trade development of ASEAN and its dialogue partner countries.
- Maximize Taiwan's advisory effectiveness in ASEAN, Asia-Pacific integration, and other regional economic and trade issues.
- Improve Taiwan's planning and execution capabilities for various types of cooperation models and topics with ASEAN member states.
- Promote Taiwan's visibility and influence with ASEAN nations, dialogue partners, and other relevant regional bodies.
