In 2003 SARS affected almost all areas of trades and occupations. According to the statistics, up to 1/3~1/2 professions were affected by SARS, and thus causing the sales value decline, with the service industry bearing the brunt. Due to the difference in degree to each profession was affected, in order to understand the depths of how small and medium enterprises were affected by SARS, drugs manufacture and medical supply industry, textile, travel, hotel, hospital and clinics were chosen to distribute questionnaires while focusing on small and medium enterprises, these five were especially affected by SARS.
Results show: On the aspects of enterprise operation, the miniature enterprises were severely affected, and then the small and medium enterprises, large enterprises suffered relatively small minimum income decrease. The percentage of small and medium enterprises, miniature enterprises did not carry out adjustment measures were much higher than the large enterprises; for enterprises that did take action, no matter the scale size, the main two actions were to increase sanitary and cut down costs. The larger the scale of the enterprise, the more likely they were able to put government’s SARS salary policy into practice Regarding effects of SARS on the investment of the two coasts confidence, the larger the scale of the enterprises, the higher the decrease of investment in China confidence, while the smaller the enterprises scale, the higher the percent in belief that there was no effect. However regarding those who have already invested or would have investments in China, they mostly believed that SARS and other diseases would no influence over investment in China confidence. Furthermore, regardless of scale size, mostly agreed that “SARS epidemic raised enterprise consciousness to the importance of world ethics morals,” and expressed disapproval with “China’s methods of intentional concealment and severe restriction on SARS epidemic information” On t
