The world’s emerging markets have been growing rapidly, and have become a major focus worldwide. Faced by the growing importance of these emerging economies, and also based upon the consideration of risk diversification, the expansion of overseas markets, and market shares, Taiwan’s SMEs need to expand their targets to those emerging markets. In this paper, we first researched on the changing international business environment, and examined the opportunities and challenges presented by three typical emerging markets- Vietnam, India, and six member-states of Gulf Co-ordination Council (GCC) along with the strategies the Taiwan SMEs adopted to develop those markets. Furthermore, we advanced analyze what development strategies SMEs can adopt in emerging markets and for what business strategies they will be able to formulate appropriate with opportunities and challenges they meet. Lastly, we gave suggestions to Taiwan government to help Taiwan SMEs to develop emerging markets.
