01Dr. Shi-Kuan Chen, Professor of International Business at National Taiwan University, was appointed president.
03Held the “First Taiwan Circular Economy Award” to encourage domestic industries to implement circular economy practices for sustainable development.
05Co-hosted the “2019 Master Forum” with Economic Daily News and First Bank, featuring Paul Romer—Chief Economist of the World Bank, Professor at NYU Stern School of Business, and recipient of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences—as a distinguished speaker.
06Signed the research cooperation memorandum with the World Trade Institute (WTI) in Switzerland.
09Signed the “Letter of Intent for Cooperation on the RE100 Renewable Energy Initiative” with The Climate Group.

2018

03Established the New Southbound Health Project Office to assist the Ministry of Health and Welfare in promoting New Southbound medical cooperation and advancing Taiwan’s “One Country, One Center” medical brand policy.
04National Taiwan University filed a lawsuit seeking the return of its former premises and provisional execution. After the Supreme Court remanded the case for retrial, the Taiwan High Court in Taipei set aside the original judgment. It ruled that the property must be returned to National Taiwan University. The judgment ordered the vacating and return of the buildings located at Nos. 63, 65, 67, 69, 71, 73, and 75 of Changxing Street, including all ancillary and additional structures.
05Co-hosted the “2018 Masters Forum” with the Economic Daily News and First Commercial Bank. The event invited Bruce McCarl, a Distinguished Professor of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University and a representative of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, as a guest speaker.
09Dr. Tien-Wang Tsaur, a Distinguished Professor of Economics at Soochow University, was elected as the chairman.
11National Taiwan University filed a lawsuit requesting the return of its former premises and sought provisional execution. Following a retrial by the Taiwan High Court in Taipei, an appeal was filed with the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ultimately ruled against the appeal, and the judgment became final and binding.
12Participated in the “Taiwan-Japan Economic and Trade Conference” and assisted with government regulations and advisory support.

2017

05National Taiwan University’s appeal to reclaim the Institution’s premises and request provisional execution was overturned by the Supreme Court. The case was remanded to the Taiwan High Court for retrial.
Published the Taiwan Business Investment White Paper for Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines to assist Taiwanese businesses in understanding the New Southbound Policy’s economic and political environment.
07Co-hosted the “2017 Masters Forum” with the Economic Daily News featuring Robert Shiller, Professor at Yale University and 2013 Nobel Laureate in Economics.
10Co-hosted the “2017 Masters Forum” with the Economic Daily News and Chang Hwa Bank featuring Oliver Hart, Professor at Harvard University and 2016 Nobel Laureate in Economics.
12Established the Southern Branch to enhance research on industrial dynamics, local economies, and industrial transformation in southern Taiwan.

06National Taiwan University’s appeal to reclaim the Institution’s premises and request provisional execution was dismissed by the Taiwan High Court in the second instance.

03Chairman Academician Chin-Yi Chu was appointed Minister without Portfolio for Science and Technology of the Executive Yuan.
Dr. Chi-Yuan Liang, a Research Fellow at the Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica, was elected as chairman.
Commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs to co-establish the Green Trade Project Office with the Industrial Technology Research Institute.

10Published the policy recommendation book The Challenge of Transformation: Issues and Strategies for Taiwan’s Economy to address the long-term economic strategies for Taiwan amid the global financial crisis.
12Established the Taiwan ASEAN Studies Center to enhance economic and trade research and cooperation with Southeast Asian countries.

09Dr. Dai-Gee Shaw, a Research Fellow at the Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica, was appointed as president.

09Dr. Chen-En Ko, a professor of accounting at National Taiwan University, was appointed president.
10Held the “Chung-Hua Institution Strategy Development Conference” led by President Chen-En Ko and attended by directors of various departments, centers, and administrative units, as well as members of the institutional affairs council.

03Vice President Dr. Tain-Jy Chen was appointed president.
08Established The Japan Center Sub Committee to collaborate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association on Taiwan-Japan technological exchanges and conduct topic research.
10Dr. Jung-Feng Chang, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Security Council and Research Fellow for the National Conference for Unification, was appointed vice president.

07Dr. Vincent Siew, former Premier of the Executive Yuan, was elected as chairman.
12Former Research Fellow Dr. Chuan Lin was appointed as the Minister of Finance.

05Former Research Fellow Dr. Chi-Lin Wea was appointed as the Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan. Research Fellow Dr. Chin Chung was appointed as the Director-General of the Government Information Office. Research Fellow Dr. Chuan Lin was appointed as the Director-General of the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics.
Research Fellow Dr. Jung-Feng Chang was appointed as the Deputy Secretary-General of the National Security Council.

07Established The Center for Financial and Economic Strategies to enhance services for society and industry, providing financial and economic insights to various sectors.

1997

07During the Asian Financial Crisis, President Academician Chao-Cheng Mai led a research team to analyze Taiwan’s fiscal condition. He proposed the “Economic Resilience Enhancement Plan” to assist the government in navigating the financial crisis.

1996

05Research Fellow Dr. Jung-Feng Chang was appointed as a Consultant to the National Security Council and a Research Fellow for the National Conference for Unification under the Office of the President.
10Academician Chao-Cheng Mai of Academia Sinica was appointed as president.

06Invited Kenneth Joseph Arrow (Professor Emeritus at Stanford University and 1972 Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics) with the Institute of Economics, Academia Sinica, to deliver a keynote speech on “Information, Increasing Returns, and Economic Growth.”
09Academician Ching-Han Fei, Emeritus Professor of Economics at Yale University, was elected as chairman.

1992

07The joint session of the Legislative Committees on Economics, Interior, and Education invited Minister of Economic Affairs Vincent Siew, Chairman of the Mainland Affairs Council Kun-Huei Huang, President of Academia Sinica Ta-You Wu, and President Tzong-Shian Yu along with relevant colleagues to report on issues regarding recent cross-strait scientific and technological exchanges.
09Established The Center for Economic Forecasting to develop and apply econometric models and statistical indicators for quantitative simulation and analysis of domestic economic conditions and related benefits.
11Invited Dr. Oscar Arias Sanchez (former President of Costa Rica and 1987 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate) with the National Taiwan University to deliver a keynote speech on “Democratic Transition in Latin America.”

01Vice President Teng-Hui Lee visited the Institution for an inspection.
07Vice President Dr. Tzong-Shian Yu was elected as an Academician of Academia Sinica.
09Invited James Buchanan, Professor at George Mason University and 1986 Nobel Laureate in Economics, to deliver a lecture titled “The Simple Economics of Work Ethics.”
11Economic Outlook magazine received the 1988 Golden Tripod Award for Outstanding Publicly Funded Magazines.

01Launched the inaugural issue of Economic Outlook magazine.
Invited Sir John Hicks, Professor at All Souls College, University of Oxford, and 1972 Nobel Laureate in Economics, to deliver a lecture titled “How to Manage Without Money?”
05President Sho-Chieh Tsiang was honored as an Honorary Fellow of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

06Chairman Dr. Chi-Cheng Chang was appointed Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of China.

03Invited Sir William Arthur Lewis, Professor of Economics at Princeton University and 1979 Nobel Laureate in Economics, to visit and deliver a lecture titled “A Discourse on the Growth of World Trade Over the Past Century.”
07Dr. Chi-Cheng Chang, Chairman of the Board of the Central Trust of China, was elected as chairman.

07Invited Lawrence Klein, Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and 1980 Nobel Laureate in Economics, to visit and deliver a lecture titled “The Impact of Current Macroeconomic Debates on Econometric Model Specification.”
08Signed the “Long-Term Academic Cooperation Agreement” with National Taiwan University.

1981

02The President issued a decree to promulgate the Act Governing the Establishment of the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research.
Hired Tzu-Kai Chang, Kuo-Hwa Yu, Kwoh-Ting Li, Shih-Yi Chung, and Chen-Hsing Yen as the appointed board members. Elected Kuo-Shu Liang, Wan-Jung Kuo, Tzong-Shian Yu, Ying-Chang Koo, San-Lien Wu, Yung-Ching Wang, and Yu-Ziang Hsu as the inaugural elected board members. Through mutual election by the standing directors, Tzu-Kai Chang was selected as the chairman, and former President Chia-Kan Yen was appointed as the honorary chairman.
Academician Sho-Chieh Tsiang was appointed as the inaugural president, and Dr. Tzong-Shian Yu was appointed as the vice president.
04Invited Milton Friedman, Professor of Economics at Yale University and 1976 Nobel Laureate in Economics, to visit and deliver a lecture titled “The Invisible Hand in Economics and Politics.”
07Officially established and founded The First Research Division, The Second Research Division, and The Third Research Division to focus on mainland Chinese economics, international economics, and Taiwan’s economics, respectively, in order to provide references for government policy planning.

1980

02The Administrative Planning and Steering Agency, under the Executive Yuan’s Council for Economic Planning and Development, appointed Academician Sho-Chieh Tsiang as the director and Dr. Tzong-Shian Yu as the deputy director of the preparatory office.
04The office relocated to 59 Chang’an East Road, Section 1, Taipei City (formerly the First Bank’s Guesthouse) to commence the preparatory work.
12Theodore Schultz, Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago and 1979 Nobel Laureate in Economics, visited and delivered a lecture titled “The Adverse Economic Effects of International Aid on Poor Countries.”
Temporarily leased the 8th floor of the Guangfu Building at 35 Guangfu South Road, Taipei City, as the office space.
