This study provides an analysis of central economic organization in Mainland China since 1949. The process of economic organization has been subject to much change in the hands of the central authorities. We discovered that this change reflects both functional differences in organization and new economic policies.
The study has been divided into five sections: 1) the reasons for and the methodology of the research; 2) an explanation of the evolution of central economic organization, according to the law of hierarchy and departmentalization; 3) a brief analysis of the status quo and of the operational processes of the material plan, price plan, and financial plan in order to explain the national economic plan; 4) an attempt to discover the rationale for change in economic organization, by adopting the policy and function approaches; and 5) a comprehensive conclusion which summarizes the past thirty odd years and describes the present change.
