Eel-cultivation industry is one of the most important industries in Taiwan. The exportation amount of adult eels from Taiwan to Japan is fifty thousand tons annually occupying more than 50 percent of Japanese eel consumption market. Taking the advantage of lower cost, mainland China and Malaysia involve the Japanese market recently. Under the competitive pressure from the two countries, the market share of Taiwanese eel products in Japanese market has dwindled gradually. Because of the uncertainty of glass eels supply, the high cost of glass eels and the pressure from environmental protection, the eel cultivation industry in Taiwan has exhibited sighs of “Declining Industry”. The authors suggest that the Taiwan eel cultivation industry should transfer the investment area to mainland China. Mainland China has the superiority of glass eel and natural resources, on the other hand, the Taiwanese businessmen have the advantage of the cultivation skills and marketing channels. The combined advantages of the two sides will make the eel cultivation industry climb to another high peak.
