Since the World Trade Organization failed to reach agreement in Cancun, Mexico, bilateral and regional free-trade agreements have taken off. Such agreements will have multiple impacts that may restructure the global economy. Studying the effects of bilateral and regional free-trade agreements on that global economy and on Taiwan in particular is necessary. The purpose of this project is to study the trend toward regionalization and bilateral negotiations in the era of globalization and to evaluate any impact on Taiwan. The findings may serve as a reference for governments to design national plans. We hope to achieve the following objectives: 1.Analyze the trends and impact of regionalization and bilateral negotiations in the era of globalization. 2.Evaluate the impact on Taiwan, especially in terms of macroeconomic variables and industrial restructuring over the next four years.
