The government’s economic development strategy plan has given the meeting and exhibition industry in Taiwan a fresh impetus. The key benefits from advancing this industry are as follows. The broad relationship between the meeting and exhibition industry and other industries can give rise to a multiplier effect for the whole economy. It can increase the international trade and business of local industries, initiate and inspire the R&D of related professional technologies, improve the quality of internationalization and upgrade the culture mix of domestic people, and enhance the international image of Taiwan and attract foreign tourists.
One of the major difficulties in developing the meeting and exhibition industry in Taiwan is the lack of basic information regarding this new industry. Due to the small size of local businesses, private investment in the meeting and exhibition industry is quite limited. In addition, the government needs good and reliable social and economic data to draft useful guidelines that can serve as the basis for future policy.
The purpose of this project is to conduct a statistical survey of the meeting and exhibition industry in Taiwan. By combining this survey with the case study method, the project is able to describe the status quo of the meeting and exhibition industry. Estimating the size and potential of the meeting and exhibition industry is also one of the major objectives of this project. The project also seeks to collect data regarding future domestic and international activities for meetings and exhibitions over the next few years. All this valuable information can serve as a foundation for government officials to understand the meeting and exhibition industry and to address a practical industry development plan for the meeting and exhibition industry in Taiwan.
