Inconvenient impacts of Taiwan-PRC ECFA

The official “impact assessment,” which was based on an econometric analysis by the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, promised that ECFA would insulate Taiwan from the formation of regional trade zones including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the PRC (ASEAN plus One) and perhaps Japan and South Korea (ASEAN plus Three) and would also lift annual inflation-adjusted growth of gross domestic production of between 1.65 to 1.72 percentage points and create over 230,000 employment opportunities.
