12/11 International Conference on “ASEAN in the Second Trump Administration: Strategic Challenges and Policy Opportunities”
ASEAN has played an increasingly important role in global trade and investment flows, and Southeast Asian countries have also emerged as major beneficiaries of the “China + 1” strategy as well as preferred destinations for friend-shoring. Many countries have relocated their supply chains to ASEAN. This has led to a significant rise in trade surpluses with the U.S. and issues such as circumvention of rules of origin, making the region a primary target of President Donald Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs” policy during his second term.
ASEAN held the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, reaffirming its determination to accelerate regional economic integration. Meanwhile, emerging industries in ASEAN are rising rapidly, including the digital economy, green technology, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing, all showing enormous development potential. In particular, ASEAN’s growing focus on semiconductors and electric vehicles will create more opportunities for cooperation with global partners and Taiwan.
The Taiwan ASEAN Studies Center (TASC) at the Chung-Hua Institution for Econom-ic Research (CIER) will host the 2025 International Conference on “ASEAN in the Second Trump Administration: Strategic Challenges and Policy Opportunities” on Dec 11 from 10:00 to 12:00.
