The objective of the book is making an analysis in-depth of agricultural trade and investment between Mainland China and Taiwan after the late 1980’s.
Exploration on feasibility of cooperation in agricultural development between the two areas is also made.
The book has been divided to nine chapters. Firstly current situations in agriculture and rural development in China and Taiwan have been discussed. As a follow-on, agricultural trade and competitions in the overseas markets for Mainland’s and Taiwan’s commodities have been reviewed. Trade infarm products between the two areas, including smuggling agricultural commodities from Mainland, is then studied based on findings derived from interviews. The following chapter then focuses on discussion of the findings from two field surveys aiming at investigating investment from Taiwan to Mainland in pesticide industry and aquaculture of the eel. Motivations, decision making process, implementations of problems caused by the investment projects have been analyzed and lessons concluded. The last three chapters try to assess various models of agricultural investment in Mainland and to explore feasibility of the possible agricultural aids and cooperation between the two areas in different ways. Regional economic analysis of a number of potential investment sits in Mainland has been also furnished.
