Established in 2009 by the CIER, this Center is Taiwan’s first government-commissioned policy think tank dedicated to ASEAN affairs and related issues. Its primary mission is to conduct and promote ASEAN research, build domestic and international platforms for dialogue on ASEAN-related topics, advance Track II diplomacy, and foster interaction and cooperation between Taiwan and ASEAN countries. Since its inception, the Center has consistently advanced research on ASEAN, its dialogue partner countries, and regional economic and trade development. Its research scope encompasses the political and economic development of ASEAN countries, ASEAN integration and related issues, Taiwanese businesses’ strategies in ASEAN markets, and bilateral relations. Each year, the Center hosts the Southeast Asia Trade and Economic Promotion Platform Meeting, international seminars, and other conferences. It also publishes specialized books, research reports, and translations of key ASEAN documents to enhance domestic and international understanding of ASEAN studies. The Center has broadened its research focus and scope in response to evolving Southeast Asian and global trade dynamics. Building on its established foundation, the Center now addresses a wider range of emerging issues, including geopolitics and diplomacy, economic security, technological innovation, supply chain dynamics, climate change, and the digital economy. Its research also extends to South Asia, the Pacific, and the broader Indo-Pacific region. The Center will continue to expand its research capacity, delivering timely and in-depth analyses to support the government, industry, academia, and research communities.
