The Third Research Division

Introduction

The Third Research Division focuses on the Taiwan economy by analyzing relevant economic issues and important economic policies, through which it offers policy recommendations to the government. In recent years, rapid changes in the global economy, the steady growth of regional integration and closer bonding among trade and economic organizations have had far-reaching consequences on the Taiwan economy. For Taiwan, caught in the midst of upgrading and transition, these local and international changes, both political and economic and compounded by the rapid rise of the Chinese economy, have together constituted a strong challenge. Thus, issues related to how to improve the local investment climate, assist industries in their transition and upgrading, and find the right impetus for reinvigorating Taiwan's economy, have become core areas for government work over the next few years. Having said this, this division will in the future orient research work toward local themes, while also exerting effort in attaining international standards in the quality of research work, not to speak of playing a leading role in orienting Taiwan's economic policy-making. We hope that each member of the team can be a leading figure in his or her own specialty field.
